Ahmad is a young Palestinian refugee who had to flee his home in Jenin, Israel, at a tender age to escape the wars and violence engulfing his childhood. Born to a poor refugee family, he was forced to grow up rapidly, taking care of his four younger siblings in the absence of their parents. Despite the lack of resources, Ahmad’s love for learning only grew stronger as he struggled to find a school to attend and make ends meet.
As luck would have it, Ahmad and his siblings caught the attention of a local nongovernmental organization (NGO) focused on providing basic necessities and humanitarian aid to Gaza’s most vulnerable population. Inspired by the love and care Ahmad and his brothers received from this organization, it wasn’t long before they become their most energetic and dedicated assistants. The two-year-old group, consisting entirely of children similar to Ahmad in their circumstances, grew rapidly thanks to the trust and support established among its founder and the team.
Ahmed, with remarkable leadership skills born out of years of hardship and the need for responsibility, went on to inspire and guide both his siblings, his friends within the group and eventually the NGOs themselves. To better serve more families in equal need, as the group rapidly expanded, some members of Ahmed’s group who were more settled, took roles within the larger organization.
